Thank you so much to everybody who participated in The Mahones’ Hunger & The Fight pre-recording fundraiser – we raised a whopping $7500! That’s enough to get the recording process started for the first album, The Hunger (an acoustic Irish Folk album). We are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped. We are currently recording demos, and we hit the studio to start recording the album this month (February, 2014).
We are now entering the pre-order phase for The Hunger & The Fight! We expect that the cost of recording these two albums will be about $20,000 (believe it or not, this is pretty cheap for two independent records), so we’re offering some brand new very cool pre-order and advance bundles. If you pre-order now, you’ll be helping us make Irish punk history. This will be the very first double Irish punk concept album – ever! The Hunger & The Fight is about the struggle and perseverance of the Irish people, and the evolution of Irish music from Irish Folk to Irish Punk. This new double album will include 16 new & original Mahones songs, 3 traditional Irish songs and a 2 special cover songs: Dancing In The Moonlight by Irish rock legends Thin Lizzy (Ireland), and Police and Thieves by Junior Murvin (famously covered by The Clash). An additional two versions of the title track anthem, The Hunger & The Fight will cap off this new double album!
Disc one (The Hunger) will be an acoustic Irish folk record influenced by our Irish heroes from Finny’s home town of Dublin, Ireland, The Dubliners. Disc two (The Fight) will be an all out electric Irish Punk record in the spirit of our punk rock heroes The Who, Stiff Little Fingers and The Clash!
