Pop Evil “Trenches” Check It Out Now!

The Grand Rapids-based rock band Pop Evil  is putting its all into a new album, “Onyx,” due out May 14. Pop Evil really tried to stretch its boundaries individually and that led to help from uber producer Johnny K, who’s turning the knobs for “Onyx.”Pop Evil has debut the song “Trenches,” at The Machine Shop today Thursday, March 28, “I don’t like telling what the song means,” Kakaty said. “It can mean whatever to the fans. It’s been an organic experience in the studio in general. The single depicts a graduation for the band. I feel like we’ve graduated to the next level.”It’s hard to describe, but now we’re starting to know who we are as individuals and who we are as a band. That identity comes out strong in this new single. So we’re excited to get it out there and let the fans decide and react to it.”

This is the second album that Johnny K has worked on with Pop Evil. The first is 2011’s “War of Angels,” which spawned the hits “Boss’s Daughter” and “Purple.”

“With Johnny K, we knew what we wanted this time,” Kakaty said. “Johnny K helped us refine it and make sure the guitars were powerful, the vocals were crisp. I really owe it (to the fans) as a lyricist on this record to make sure the lyrics were better than any of our past records. It’s definitely something I’m proud of.”

Pop Evil spent 2011 and 2012 touring in support of “War of Angels.” It successfully hit the road with the “Trespass America Tour” supporting Five Finger Death Punch and Killswitch Engage. The band is ready to support “Onyx.”

“We’re not the freshmen on the block anymore,” said Kakaty, whose band will head to Sweden to film three music videos. “It’s our third album in. We finally had the chance to do the album we’ve always wanted to do. Timing is everything. It feels like the time for us. It’s definitely a lot more fun in the studio with this past effort. I can’t wait to get out there and expose the music to our fans.”
