Chester Bennington takes Stone Temple lead

Stone Temple Pilots have reformed (again) but with Linkin Park’s Chester Bennington as lead singer.Bennington has been announced officially as the new lead singer for Stone Temple Pilots, replacing the inconsistent Scott Weiland.

Stone Temple Pilots is now Chester Bennington, Dean DeLeo, Robert DeLeo and Eric Kretz. The last time the DeLeo brothers and Kretz recorded without Weiland was as Talk Show in 1997 with Ten Inch Men’s Dave Coutts on vocals.

Speaking to KROQ Bennington said, ‘Stone Temple Pilots has this sexier, more classic rock feel to it. Linkin Park is a very modern, very tech-heavy type of band. I grew up listening to these guys. When this opportunity came up, it was just like a no-brainer. We couldn’t really plan a tour until now because we couldn’t let people know what was going on. Now the cat’s out of the bag so we’re going to go out and make more music and go play more shows and have some fun.’

There has been no word of any changed to Linkin Park so it is assumed at this stage that Bennington is taking on the STP role as a side-project during Linkin Park’s downtime.

The first taste of Bennington as Stone Temple Pilots lead singer is via the song ‘Out Of Time’.Stone Temple Pilots will perform their first gig on May 30 at Club Nokia in Los Angeles.Stone Temple Pilots recorded six albums with Weiland. The last was ‘Stone Temple Pilots’ in 2010.
