Prince released a new single on Friday called ‘Fix Ur Life Up’, with his new band, 3rd Eye Girl, on the eve of their “Live Out Loud” North American tour.
The single aired on Canadian radio station CBC Radio One and is expected to emerge on iTunes soon. ‘Fix Ur Life Up’ has a strong rock sound, reminiscent of Prince’s 1996 album, Chaos And Disorder.
Prince and 3rd Eye Girl, which consists of Donna Grantis on guitar, Hannah Ford on drums and Ida Nielsen on bass, are on the verge of a small club tour starting on Monday in Vancouver and finishing in Denver in mid-May. The group will be working hard on the tour, putting on 2 shows a night over 17 nights.
The tour ends just in time for Prince to get back to Las Vegas for the Billboard Music Awards, where he will be honoured with the Billboard Icon Award.
Prince’s friend and regular Internet mouthpiece, celebrity blogger Dr. Funkenberry, announced yesterday that a launch party for the tour on Sunday night will feature new music from the band’s new, full-length album, the working title of which is Plectrum Electrum.
‘Fix Ur Life Up’ is the song alluded to at the start of the ‘Screwdriver’ video, released in January, where the boys in a fictional band in the clip quibble with Hannah and the girls over one of the lines of the song that says, “A girl with a guitar is 12 times better than another crazy band of boys.”
Prince has been very busy so far this year, with new music and videos, including singles, remixes, demos and rehearsal footage, being released fairly consistently on his new website or through the 3rd Eye Girl Twitter account since January. At Easter, he released a re-worked, slowed down and rock-heavy rehearsal version of ‘Let’s Go Crazy’, from his most famous album, 1984′s Purple Rain.
