The Indigo Girls took the stage with a full band to rock the pavilion on a perfect summer night in Boston. Great location and great music made it an equally great evening for the scores of fans filling the venue. The Indigo Girls, Amy Ray and Emily Saliers, who have been making their blend of folk and rock music filled with some of the best harmonies produced by any duo since back in the late 80’s are still entertaining fans old and new.
Amy and Emily performed a set lasting about an hour and a half filled with hits and favorites from their large catalog of songs. Opening up with Shame on You and Least Complicated, which got everyone standing, singing and quickly set the mood for the rest of the evening, then hitting other classics like Power of Two and Ghost through the set it was non-stop classic IG at its best. The band, made up of keyboards, electric guitar, drums, bass and of course Lyris Hung on violin, who got quite the response from the crowd during key solos. Each band member, a skilled musician, contributing to the full sound. Lucy Wainwright Roche added her talents to the band and performed one song on her own.
The set did not have a low point but instead kept the level high leading to possibly their biggest hit Galileo, but that was not the end. The final two songs, Kid Fears, which could be a tie with Galileo, and Closer to Fine were the perfect songs to end the set and had some extra harmonies provided by Melissa Etheridge. This combined tour allowed for this rare opportunity that brought a huge reaction from the crowd.
It was a fantastic evening of music and a perfect pairing of musicians for this tour, great artists and great bands.
Indigo Girls music is just as good as when it first hit the airwaves back in the late 80’s and early 90’s and hopefully they will continue to produce music and tour well into the future.
