As the crisp breeze of fall rolls in, the musical arena buzzes with excitement. The iconic Dropkick Murphys are trading the calm serenity of their acoustic strings for the electrifying pulse of their rock roots. Starting September 27th in Bangor, Maine, fans can expect a series of full electric performances, a treat for those who’ve missed the energetic vibe that the band is renowned for.
Over the past year, Dropkick Murphys embraced a fresh direction. Their two acoustic albums – “This Machine Still Kills Fascists” and “Okemah Rising” – received critical acclaim for their reinterpretation of Woody Guthrie’s work. These albums, drenched in Guthrie’s essence and recorded under the masterful touch of producer Ted Hutt in Tulsa, presented a different facet of the band to both their dedicated fans and a new audience. This acoustic venture saw the band dabbling in genres that took them to the airwaves of SiriusXM’s Outlaw Country and features in media giants like Rolling Stone Country, CNN, and SPIN.
But this fall, the amps are back on, and the Murphys are ready to rock.
The tour, guaranteed to be a riot of sound, features The Interrupters riding the waves of their August 2022 release “In The Wild.” This fourth studio album, described by the Alternative Press as “the best songs the Interrupters have ever written,” promises to be a complement to the headline act.
Opening for these titans is roots rocker Jesse Ahern, set to drop his debut album “Roots Rock Rebel” on September 15th, produced under Dropkick Murphys’ Dummy Luck record label.
Fans who have been following the Dropkick Murphys’ journey know that this is more than just a tour – it’s a legacy. From their early days as Boston’s rock ‘n’ roll underdogs, their music has resonated in arenas, pubs, and stadiums. Their music has not only dominated the charts but also found its way into the cinematic world of Martin Scorsese’s “The Departed.”
Having been a beacon of hope and entertainment during the challenging times of 2020 with their virtual performances, the band is no stranger to adaptation and evolution. Yet, this return to their raucous, amplified self signals a full circle for the Dropkick Murphys, a band that continues to surprise, inspire, and most importantly, rock.
So, for those eager to chant, cheer, and lose themselves in a world of pure rock ‘n’ roll, the Dropkick Murphys’ tour is the place to be.
