Nothing beats a summer concert at the Bank of American Pavilion, an open air venue on the Boston waterfront, and last Friday was no exception. After a long spell of hot weather, the night air was on the cool side but quickly warmed up with the arrival with the open band, Bad Seed Rising. This group of 11-15 year olds from Baltimore really impressed the crowd with their set of original music, which was a mixture of heavy metal, rock and glam.
They were followed by a rousing set from Halestorm, who still seemed to be glowing from their Grammy win earlier in the year. Their performance was highlighted by the energetic hijinks of Arejay, the band’s drummer who was named as the Best Drummer in the 2013 Golden Gods awards.
The arrival of Daughtry, the third band of the night heated up the venue as well as all the ladies who were fighting to get a closer look at the newly buffed physique of the former American Idol contestant.
The evening culminated with a great set from 3 Doors Down, the hardest working band in rock n roll. As the lights came up, Brad Arnold appeared on stage sporting a gray Boston Strong t-shirt, paying homage to the city recovering from the recent Boston Marathon bombing. They began with the upbeat Time of My Life and throughout the set, Brad and the band made their way all over the expansive and open stage making sure to connect with as many fans as possible.
After a ten song set, the encore started with Kryptonite, a crowd favorite but with the added bonus of the return of Chris Daughtry lending his vocals as well. Finally, with When I’m Gone the band bid adieu to the summer evening in fitting fashion.
