After a 4 year Hiatus, Ben Burnley returns with a new cd and a new lineup. “Dark Before Dawn” was released on June 23rd, 2015. It debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 and sold over 141,000 copies in the first week. The new lineup consists of drummer Shawn Foist, bassist Aaron Bruch and Jasen Rauch and Keith Wallen. After performing in several sold out shows on their tour, Breaking Benjamin made their way to the Best Buy Theater on September 19th 2015. This show also happens to be sold out. Supporting Breaking Benjamin on the road this part of the tour is Thousand Foot Krutch.
At promptly 8:00pm Thousand Foot Krutch takes to the stage, Opening with the song “Give It To Me” setting the energy level for the rest of the show. They gave a solid performance in their 45 minute set, playing 11 songs. This is my first time seeing TFK and I was quite impressed with them. I would definitely go and see them again.
At 9:15pm sharp the house lights went out. The intro riff to “So Cold” started and you can see the silhouettes of a the band members move into place. As soon as the rest of the band kicked in, the house lights went bright and the whole place went nuts. “So Cold” was the first single off the “We Are Not Alone” release. It was released in March of 2004 and is known to be their breakthrough song. That was the first song I heard from them back then and it turned me into an instant fan that moment.
Their 19 song setlist was nicely put together, mixing old hits, new songs, covers and a really interesting medley using Star War’s “Imperial march”, Tool’s “Schism”, Nirvana’s “Smell Like Teen Spirit” and Pantera’s “Walk”. I was very impressed when bassist Aaron Bruch took over vocal duty for their cover of Tool’s song “Ænima”. It truly was a flawless version. During the night, they performed the songs “Failure“, “Angels Fall” and “Ashes of Eden” off their newest release and they were received well by the audience.
As the night was coming to a close they performed their last song “I Will Not Bow”. After leaving the stage, the crowd began to chanting “One more song….One more song” After about two minutes, the band came back out and played “Dance with the Devil” and “Diary of Jane”.
I was very pleased with this show. Every song was played perfect and these guys delivered. The energy was there from the first song to the last. I cannot wait to see Breaking Benjamin again.
