Seeing that “Earth Rocker” was released to the world, it stood to reason that Clutch would set out to tour across the United States bringing their blend of rock and roll and swamp blues nationwide. This tour was especially poignant given Clutch’s asserted desire to unequivocally return to their rock roots and re-establish themselves as the preeminent rock band in the U.S. On this night opening for Clutch was some killer local bands and others all the way from Texas.
Opening the night was The local band Mucklers Circle hailing from West Townsend MA. True old school Heavy Metal is what this five-piece band is bringing to the table With kind of a cool name. The Story goes like this. Once upon a time, long, long ago people had a different way of dealing with scumbags, thieves, rats, & other various undesirables. They would be surrounded and “taught” the meaning of justice or revenge. This surrounding and the accompanying “lesson” was called the “MUCKLERS CIRCLE”.
Next up was 4×4 Barracuda a real deal no BS rock band You can check out some of there stuff HERE
Then we have American Sharks a seventies rock and punk with a metallic 1990s sheen… likened to Supersuckers and New Bomb Turks. California desert rock meets Texan grand slam. Simply put they Rock!
Now for the Headliners Clutch The crowd this night was a mix of metal meatheads, power-thirsty rock fans and mosh pit instigators, and thankfully some women populate the gathered masses now, evidence of Clutch’s extended reach. Each segment was there to see a different aspect of the band’s underground iconic career.
Clutch opened with several “Earth Rocker” cuts. Fire began to light in the eyes of Fallon, which first showed for an excellent “Earth Rocker.” As they got back into “Earth Rocker,” things started to come into anticipated form. “Escape from the Prison Planet” was better live than on disc and the same goes for “The Elephant Riders.” Everything after that went as scripted or better, the new cuts in particular coming to virile life. Eventually the encore arrived, and this is where Clutch left their mark, with a raucous “Crucial Velocity” and the best “D.C. Sound Attack” into “The Mob Goes Wiled” I’ve heard to date. Their parting shot was among their best and that was A Shotgun Named Marcus. All in all a great show Clutch is back if you get a chance to see this show go you will not be disappointed.
