The 3rd annual Decibel Magazine Tour makes it’s way to the Best Buy Theater in New York City. Headlining this years tour is Carcass and supporting acts The Black Dahlia Murder, Gorguts and Noisem.
The first band to hit the stage was Noisem. They are not only a new band to the scene but these guys are young. They’re ages are ranging from 15-19 years old. They hit the stage hard and fast. Playing song after brutal song. Noisem is not only an up and coming band, they are creating a promising future to all up and coming death/thrash metal bands. Keep an eye out for these guys in the future.
Second on the roster was the technical death metal band Gorguts. Their set was comprised of songsnfrom their most recent release, Coloured Sands, which is their first studio release since 2001. I was impressed with the way their music created a mood with their intricate time changes. They were heavy, melodic, fast, slow, everything you could ask for in a technical death metal band.
The Black Dahlia Murder kicked off with ‘In Hell Is Where She Waits for Me’ and it was pure adrenaline throughout the whole set as they went from song to song. They played a great selection of 9 songs spanning pretty much through all their releases. They ended the set with ‘I Will Return’ off of the 2009 release ‘Deflorate’, which left the audience wanting more.
Carcass began their set with the intro ‘1985’ and jumping right into ‘Buried Dreams’. They played a great mixture of songs, containing a lot of material off of Surgical Steel and Heartwork which are regarded as their best albums. Those two are truly my favorite albums from them as well. They also dug deep into their first album and played ‘Genital Grinder’ and ‘Pyosisified (Rotten to the Gore)’. It’s safe to say that they catered to all the fans, new and old. The band was in no hurry to go from song to song. As a matter of fact, singer/bassist Jeff Walker spoke with the audience quite a bit between songs. He even cracked a few jokes here and there about their age. Both founding members Jeff Walker and Bill Steer are only in their mid-forties. They are hardly old. I see these guys putting out more incredible albums and performing unbelievable shows till they are in their sixties. I would recommend a Carcass show to anybody that is into heavy music. It is truly a great time. I hope to see these guys come around again.
