Dwayne Haggins at Mechanics Hall – Worcester, MA

Photos and Review by Colleen Goyer

The Dwayne Haggins Band played a two-set show at the historic, Mechanics Hall in Worcester on Thursday. The five-piece group, led by Dwayne himself, made up of guitar, keyboards, bass, drums and saxophone, performed a unique mix of jazz, blues, country and soul. Each set was a mix of covers and Dwayne’s original songs making for an eclectic and interesting musical evening. Each player is incredibly skilled on their instrument, taking turns at soloing. Dwayne in addition to being the only guitar in the band, is the also the vocalist. As the bands driving force, he has a great way of including enough information about the story behind the songs with keeping the music flowing from one song to the next.

Mechanics Hall’s Club 321 series and performance space provided the jazz club feel that fit perfectly with the jazz elements of the band. A mixture of table seating and standard row seats filled the space but was not cramped. It also allowed for an intimate connection with the band and the music.

The Dwayne Haggins Band has several upcoming performances in the area in the upcoming weeks. If you are up for a night of jazz with lots of improved solos and a mix of several other genres check them out.
