It was 3 years ago that I worked the second Foo Fighter show of the infamous “Broken Leg Tour,” also at Fenway. What a testament to Dave and the band, continuing the tour on one broken leg. Now that’s Rock n Roll! It was nice to see Dave back on his feet and up to his normal self again. In true Grohl fashion he bolted out on to the catwalk making his intro yelling: “It’s good to be back, motherfuckers! It’s good to be back! I’m not sitting down tonight. I’m here to rock my ass off!”.
The band is now touring in support of their 2017 release Concrete And Gold, produced by Greg Kurstin the Foo’s keyboardist ( just a note, he shredded the keys on Boston’s “Foreplay” during this show). The band had the crowd on their feet for the full show, even during the rain. Yeah, we had a few rain showers but the fans and the band made the best of it, with Grohl out with the crowd playing in the rain. He even made all the guys come out in the rain just for fun. Flash back to the past Fenway show in 2015: Dave invited on stage the return of “rock Ikon Dr. Lew.” Dr. Lew Schon was actually the doctor that helped repair Dave’s leg in 2015. Dr. Lew sang a cover of the Ramones “Blitzkrieg Bop.” Dave pointed out that Dr. Lew also had ties to the music scene being the father of Pigeons Playing Ping Pong guitarist Jeremy Schon. Needless to say “Dr. Lew” nailed it!

Next Dave coaxed the “love of his life”, board short wearing Taylor Hawkins, to sing a cover of Queens “Under Pressure.” Dave retreated back to his natural habitat behind the kit, allowing Hawkins his moment of frontman glory. It was evident that the Foo Fighters are not only co-workers, but great friends who just want to play music together and have fun.

After Taylor was done the band welcomed their second guest of the night as Joe Walsh of the Eagles. Walsh, who begins a three-show run with the Eagles Monday in Pittsburgh, fronted the band with one of one of his signature songs — “Rocky Mountain Way.”
Next was perhaps the most special guest of the evening was Dave’s 12 year old daughter, Violet. She came out be part of the backing vocals for “Dirty Water”. It was nice to see her and Dad interact showing that it’s a true family affair.
It’s always such a good time at a Foo Fighter concert. The band knows how to put on a show and Dave, with all his antics, makes a Foo Fighter a really fun experience. I hope to see you at the next one. Till then, enjoy the photos!
