Meet The Band
Grace Potter (vocals/ keyboards / guitar)
Matt Burr (drums / vocals)
Scott Tournet (guitar / bass / keyboards / vocals)
Benny Yurco (guitar / bass / vocals)
When you first see Grace Potter you might think she is just another pretty face: smoky eyes, pouted mouth and stunning legs. And all that’s true. But midway through the first song, power-chord-driven Paris (Ooh La La) you realize you are at a rock concert – hands in the air, grinding to the beat, feeling the sway of the music as Grace Potter and the Nocturnals take you there. Grace is a full-fledged artist, writer, composer and craftsperson on her Gibson flying V, keyboard and vocals. As Grace said she “came to Boston to boogie her ass off” and the crowd enthusiastically obliged, feeling the groove of the rock that she and the Nocturnals belted out. Grace opened the show in thigh high leather boots (awesome) and as we all became closer friends in the music she ended in a barefoot session that had everyone on their feet.
Their vibe is refreshingly nostalgic and clearly set in rock and roll roots with an edge for funk. Potter’s vocals are strong and expressive with a side of raspy. The bass is deep and sets the groove for the electricity of the lead guitar. With a stripped down drum set, drummer SO AND SO, gave us the beat to rock each song. As you may have guessed, the energy level in the nearly sold out Boston House Of Blues was high as they cranked out fan favorite after favorite. If you have the opportunity – SEE THIS BAND LIVE – no regrets here. Just a kick-ass rock and roll show with enough talent and good clean instrumentals to make you appreciate both the high heeled boots and the barefoot soul of rock
