Not knowing what to expect, an open mind was the arrangement with me. The band’s music was not listened to before their set; sometimes going in blind gives one an unbiased expectation of the artists.
It was chilly next to the water at Wally’s Pub in Hampton NH., but Orgy was setting the room ablaze inside with their opening song Suckerface, the five from L.A. showed their talents from the very beginning.
Orgy was surprisingly impressive with their orchestrated chords and in your face attitude. Rifling through their set with songs such as Grime, Vague, Chasing Sirens and a personal favorite, Stiches, the band seemed so comfortable during the set the guys even took a jello-shot break. Raising their shots high and giving cheers to the crowd which sent them into a thunderous applause.
The band successfully fuses metal, electronica and alternative into a music genre all its own. There’s a lot to be said for chemistry, and Orgy has mastered the notion. The forceful vocals of Jay Gordon, the raucous guitar talents of Carlton Bost and Ashburn Miller, in correlation with the military styled beat of Jaime Miller’s drums and Nic Speck’s thunderous bass; you’ve got some serious verve.
From the first song to the last, they gave everything they had to the crowd. Their tenacity and hard work which showed throughout their set should have be enough, but obviously not by Orgy’s standards. The final song of the night which was the cover of New Order’s Blue Monday, was paramount with appearances by Michael Vampire from Vampires Everywhere and Davey Suicide himself ending the night with substantial impact.
Overall Orgy gave a searing performance that was burned into the musicals tastes of everyone that attended. The band left a lasting impression on me and I would definitely recommend catching a show and will unquestionably attend another Orgy show in the future.
