If you have seen Rob Zombie in the past ten years, you have likely seen him at a festival or large venue with a huge stage. This time around Rob decided to do some smaller venues. He came to Lupo’s Heartbreak Hotel in Providence, Rhode Island armed with instruments, lights and a few beach balls. Rob Zombie is known for his pyro, theatrics and crazy stage props. This night did not have any of them and it showed how great of a performer he and his band mates are.
The band started off the 16 song set with ‘The Star Spangled Banner’ followed by ‘We’re an American Band’ by ‘Grand Funk Railroad’. Not wasting any time, the band performs three older songs ‘Superbeast’, ‘Meet the Creeper’ and ‘Living Dead Girl’ before playing ‘Dead City Radio and the New Gods of Supertown’ off their current release.
After a drum solo by Ginger Fish, the band kicked in to the ‘White Zombie’ classic ‘More Human than Human’. It was obvious by the crowds reaction that there were many ‘White Zombie’ fans in attendance. Myself being one of them. The band continued to play a wide selection of songs, to include cover songs by Diamond Head and Alice Cooper.
The band left the stage after performing ‘Schools Out’ by ‘Alice Cooper’ and returned to play three encore songs. ‘The Lords of Salem’, ‘Ging Gang Gong De Do Gong De Laga Raga’ and ‘Dragula’. The show ended promptly at 10:30 pm. I cannot believe how fast it went. I know that myself and the 2,000 fans enjoyed every minute.
