In celebration of the 10 year anniversary of the release of their album, ‘…And The Battle Begun’, Rx Bandits played the intimate Wilbur Theater in Boston, MA. While lead singer and guitarist, Matt Embree and Steve Choi (guitars, keyboards and vocals) were present and accounted for, drummer Chris Tsagakis and bassist Joseph Troy were MIA.
As a progressive rock band from Long Beach, CA formed in the late nineties, Rx Bandits’ sound is a mix of rock, ska, and reggae. They conjure the likes of Sublime, Incubus and The Police. Their songs involve complex rhythm changes, intricate lyrics and leave plenty of room for extended jams.
The crowd of die-hard fans pushed to the center of the standing-room only floor, danced, sang and crowdsurfed to the 2+ hour set which included ‘…And The Battle Begun’ in entirety. Rx Bandits are a tight, energetic band and were constantly engaging the crowd. The middle of the show included a short drum solo which allowed the rest of the band to catch their breath, only to emerge onto the stage to listen to the solo before finding that perfect entry point to ramp back into their full sound. The show ended with both Choi and Embree holding up peace signs to the crowd, a heartfelt thank you to Boston for a great night of music.
Be sure to check them out in concert or some live stuff online. I recommend their in-studio set on Audiotree.tv.
