In what has become a highly anticipated occurrence, when Steel Panther rolls into town, all other bands are eclipsed – musically, lyrically, and visually.  In an age where Vince Neil has long lost his voice and David Lee Roth forgets the words to Panama, the Panther foursome work tireless to remind us not only that the 80’s were the greatest decade for music and partying, but that glam metal is alive and well.
Currently touring in support of their most recent album, All You Can Eat, the boys are bringing their unique combination of spectacular musicianship and comedic raunch to music fans worldwide.  Song after song, show after show it’s clear why they’ve been invited to open for Def Leppard, Motley Crue and Judas Priest, and have sold out venues headlining the likes of London’s Wembley Arena.
For longtime Steel Panther fans, the show was particularly satisfying as it added new elements (long acoustic set; a hair solo) to their more “standard” fare of girls on stage, crowd singalongs, and band member shenanigans.  On this tour, Bassist Lexxi Foxx (I hope I have the correct number of x’s) has gone beyond a bass solo – pioneering a daring HAIR SOLO –with the exactly right amount of buildup, fanfare… and leaf blowers.  The show also include a 5-song acoustic set, along with hits from each of their chart-topping albums (Feel The Steel, Balls Out, and All You Can Eat).
The band enjoys great chemistry together.  Frontman Michael Starr plays perfectly the role of party host, engaging the audience from the first moment to the last, effortlessly hitting notes high and low.  Guitarist Satchel is a masterful axeman whose blistering fretboard gymnastics leave all of us out of breath.  Lexxi plays the dunce brilliantly, while attending to the bass duties.  And Stix expertly channels legendary heavy and hair metal drummers as he beats the skins.
The set was delivered with a mile-high energy level, and enough synchronized thrusts, scissor kicks and Mixolydian licks to last you ‘til the next time Steel Panther pounces on your city.  So whether or not you’ve seen Steel Panther recently (or even last night), catch their next show – your ears and funny bone won’t be disappointed.
