Blue October has put out a third new music video from Foiled — this one for “She’s My Ride Home,” the album’s second track — as the band closes in on the North American leg of its 20th anniversary tour.
Nothing has changed on the Boston front: the band is still booked for November 13 at Citizens House of Blues, with Danny Malone opening, and they’re still playing Foiled start to finish every night. If you missed our earlier story, that’s the short version.
The Video
“She’s My Ride Home” was directed by Zach Merck, whose credits the press release lists as including Celine Dion and Saturday Night Live. Merck has worked with the band before — he also directed the original 2006 “Into the Ocean” clip, according to Wikipedia’s entry on the song.
It follows new videos for “Congratulations” (March) and “18th Floor Balcony” (last month), all tied to this year’s anniversary reissue of Foiled — the album’s first-ever vinyl pressing. The press release calls the song “deeply vulnerable” and “about risking everything around you for love,” which is about as much as the band’s publicists are going to say about it. It’s a fan favorite, not a single, so a new video for it is a pretty clear signal about who this campaign is aimed at.
Where the Tour Stands
The European leg wrapped earlier this year, and the band — Justin Furstenfeld, Jeremy Furstenfeld, Ryan Delahoussaye, Matt Noveskey, plus touring guitarist Will Knaak — starts the 70-show North American run October 22 in Abilene, TX. Five fall dates have already sold out: Tulsa (Oct. 24), Detroit (Oct. 30), Albany (Nov. 6), Cleveland (Nov. 7), and Philadelphia (Nov. 15), along with the first two of three hometown nights in Houston in December.
The two New England stops still have tickets as of the press release:
- November 3 — State Theatre, Portland, ME (w/ Danny Malone)
- November 13 — Citizens House of Blues, Boston (w/ Danny Malone)
Worth noting that Albany, Boston’s nearest sold-out neighbor on the routing, went first — if you’ve been sitting on the Boston date, that’s your nudge. Tickets are through the band’s tour page.
The 2027 extension (January 29 in Midland, TX through March 14 in Rockford, IL) is mostly West Coast and Mountain West, and doesn’t come back east. Two of those dates — Sacramento on Feb. 20 and both Portland, OR nights — are already gone too.
Bottom Line
Three videos in six months for a 20-year-old record is a lot of promotion, but the band never toured Foiled the first time around, so there’s some genuine catching up going on here. Furstenfeld’s line in the release — “This album changed my life. I can’t wait to play it from start to finish!” — is standard press-release stuff, but for a record that’s still their biggest, it’s probably also true.
November 13. House of Blues. You’ve got about seven weeks.
