This was my first “Korn” show or should I say “KoRn”! They sounded great as a live band. The crowd was totally in to this sold out show. Die hard fans were in the crowd demonstrating what KoRn truly means to the world. The KoRn flags were flying at Hampton Beach!
All dressed in black and ready for battle, frontman and Dubstep artist, Jonathan Davis, (J.D.) grabbed the microphone, from his custom H.R. Giger mic stand, and began delivering with the truly organic intensity which makes the sound we all know as KoRn. J.D.’s voice sounded great.
Reggie “Fieldy” Arvizu was on bass. His signature thump wove through the crowd. Fieldy’s guitar was strung with crazy neon glowing strings, which kept the fans mesmerized.
Guitarist James “Munky” Shaffer, perfectly powered through earth shattering riffs that defined the tune’s biggest grooves. “Get Up!” sent shockwaves through the Casino Ballroom, as J.D. once again, tore it up, keeping in tune with Shaffer’s flawless fretwork. “Way Too Far,” is one of KoRn’s best songs ever. It evidences Davis’ true brilliance! On the bridge, he roared a death metal growl and then quickly slid into Motown humming, just before another killer refrain. I have been amazed how on each new album, it would seem that Munky just keeps getting better!
Ray Luzier is not your average metal double bass drummer, but has a more musical and methodical approach to this style. Ray shows passion in his playing, and he seems to always have a smile on his face! This is truly evident of his enjoyment in drumming and his love for the band. Ray’s drum solo at the end of this night was a testament to his ability to play.
With a mix of Dubstep tracks laid down over the night and in the current album, it’s evident that KoRn, as a band, has never been afraid to try new things. If you try to change the style too much and take a risk, you might lose fans, but there’s nothing wrong with being creative and expanding what you’re doing. This has been KoRn’s mantra, and fans still agree, as evident of the numerous sold out shows on The Path of Totality tour.
