Pink At TD Garden – Boston

Review by :   Kate Walsh
The lights dim and a creepy but shockingly cool backdrop appears introducing the opening act The Hives. The black and white tuxedo dressed band step in from of the puppet and string themed backdrop and start their set of heavy instrumental rock songs. It started off a little bit rough with some sound issues making the first few songs a little difficult to hear clearly but was quickly resolved and The Hives proved to be a unique but solid rock opening act. Between the lead singers’ banter, microphone swinging, and drinking the crowd’s beer it was certainly an interesting and endearing way to open the show.
The Garden radiates a new energy the second Pink begins her show by shooting down from three muscle clad men on bungee cords bouncing up and down to “Raise your Glass”. With several costume changes, acrobatics, dance parties, on stage fireworks and an acoustic sets in store this is only the beginning. She proves to be a down to earth entertainer as her equipment needs attending to mid song. She simply stands smiling and sings her lyrics with relaxed “it is what it is” demeanor. She also makes the audience comfortable as if they are watching a friend perform. Making jokes at her own expense and having as much fun as the audience. After pumping out three full energy songs and dancing effortlessly she welcomes the crowd to The Truth About Love Tour at this legs final stop-Boston.
This show was high energy, exciting, and esthetically pleasing. There is some aspect for every type of fan out there. The stage is set like a fun house seducing the audience with bright colors and a slight edge touching the audiences’ inner rebel. With moving ballet style dances , to a hip hop style tribute to her first hits, and even a bad dancer party celebrating all those who are less skilled and just trying to have some fun. Pink proves to be a jack of all trades with skills in acrobatics, dance, drumming and obviously singing. It seems an unfortunate commonality lately with performers who utilize so many visually stimulating aspects that the music itself often suffers. Pink does not forget what this show is all about- the music. Showing her supreme talent and endurance she surpasses expectations vocally while managing to hang from ribbons and metal contraptions above the audience’s heads. To end the show Pink, dressed head to toe glittery gold spandex suit attached herself to a metal belt and flew into the balcony and over the floor making sure the fans she so cleanly values got to see her up close and personal before the shows end. Bottom line is that Pink puts on an amazing show making it clear she not only a performer but an artist making the show as amazing as she can in the two hour jam packed, energy filled experience. If you have the opportunity to see her in concert- buy a ticket and you won’t be sorry.
