Who knew that the bands Hellyeah and Device would ever play a venue like The Asylum in Portland, Maine. A small venue like that does not hold a lot of people but from what Chad of Hellyeah said on stage: “Is it just me or does this show seem very intimate?” The show was an 18 plus event so the environment was very different then say shows at the state theatre, which is right down the road. It was defiantly an experience you shouldn’t have missed.
The show started off with a small band to just kick the night off with a bang. At first there was not a lot of people in the building but as soon as Hellyeah hit the stage there were just a herd of people in the venue. If you have seen Hellyeah before you would know they were crazy on stage. At The Asylum the ceilings are very low. Vinnie Paul of Pantera and Hellyeahs drummer almost hit the ceiling on his drummer riser and Chad would jump and almost hit the roof. Their stage presence and performance was great all and all.
Then the main band of the night was David Draiman’s side project called Device. They have more of a techo sound to them, unlike disturbed. The fans that were front row for this show had a treat waiting for them because David did a lot of interacting with the crowd. Grabbing hands, singing straight into the eyes of fans, and even picking out a girl in the crowd that new every song word for word perfectly. Shows like this are what makes an awesome experience for fans. The show didn’t stop there either. After the show Device were outside of there bus meeting fans and signing a whole bunch of stuff from shirts to CD’s to even napkins.  The asylum is defiantly a hidden gem for awesome shows. Not just local artists but nationwide.
