The Cabot Theater is the gem of the Northshore.  Built in 1920 as a vaudeville theater and silent movie house, The Cabot is a rare find as only one of roughly 250 like theaters still in operation out of the estimated 20,000 originally built in the 1920’s.  The theater has seen many renovations the most recent of which occurred this past year and includes ongoing restoration, new seating and carpeting.   With the restoration comes a new name, The New Cabot, and new life in the form of award winning musical performances by big names in the music industry.  March 4th brought Clint Black, one of country music’s finest, to Beverly.  Opening for Clint was Blake Esse, winner of the Clint Black Dream Recording Session Contest.
Blake Esse gave a good performance.  He’s got all the makings of a country star on the rise.  He’s got a great voice, can play the guitar and charms his audience.  Let’s stay tuned for more Blake Esse.
Clint Black, a member of “Class of 1989” has been on hiatus for 10 years and while many in the media seem to make a big deal out of that, this reviewer will give credit where credit is due.  His resurgence on the country scene is like wearing your favorite cowboy boots—just as comfortable as ever.  Fans know what to expect from him and that is exactly what he delivers.   Performing hits from the 90’s and 2000’s or new singles off his most recently released CD, On Purpose, his smooth vocals still impress as he switches effortlessly between baritone and tenor.  Clint Black is all country boy charm. The twinkle in his eye is still there and it was all very much appreciated by the very packed house at The New Cabot.  The one difference, and it is an important one, was in the song lyrics of his new CD.  Black sings largely self-written and produced songs that convey worthy messages of love, life and wisdom, the knowledge of which can only come from life experience.  The audience was mature and I’m certain that the messages resonated with them.  This is country music folks, the way country music should be done.  Glad to have you back Clint!!!
