You may be asking why there are two sets of galleries for Collective Soul’s show at the Casino Ballroom last week. Well, here at the site we have a sign up sheet for shows that we want to shoot. I beat Micah to the punch on this one because he was just TOO SLOW. Micah’s 13 year old daughters wanted to go to the show too, so he got photo credentials under his own name. So, you get the benefit of comparing our galleries side by side to see who is the better photographer! (Don’t look too close, it’s him.)
In fact, his daughters’ first Collective Soul show was when they were 8. This is their third. That’s pretty hard-core fandom from people born 20 years after the band was originally formed. Pretty serious staying power.
Opening up the night was local favorite Jay Psaros. He was joined onstage by a second guitarist instead of a full band, but his music really lends itself to that. A couple times during the night it reminded me of the Hotel California guitar duet, possibly the best ever example of this. Give him a listen on YouTube.
Collective Soul came out next to a packed casino ballroom. The set list drew heavily from their extensive back catalog of hits, with the crowd singing along. During Shine, Ed Roland was able to take a break while the crowd sang the chorus at top volume. Jesse Triplett put on a pretty awesome guitar solo during December. In general, I loved the whole set list. These guys have a deep bench of great songs.
The American tour continues through next couple of months. Go see them if you get a chance.
