Shinedown, with Brent Smith and Zach Myers sharing much of the front man duties, played the arena at Mohegan Sun with an incredible show including pyro and fire both on the larger, main stage and down from above where the flames seemed to float through the air before burning out. The visual and dynamic sounds were perfect additions to Shinedown’s musical performance.
The first part of the show was filled with the louder, heavier songs in their catalogue of eight studio albums and was focused on the main stage of their 4-stage arena set up. One center and two satellite stages that were used by the Zach and the other band members here and there throughout the performance reaching out into the audience. For a slower, quieter portion of the set, the entire band, including a second drum kit, were moved out to the center stage area. With more acoustic guitar, drummer Barry Kerch often using mallets in place of sticks, and Brent singing the more emotional music, minus the dramatic visuals, this part of the set showed a different side of Shinedown.
A medley of a few covers including Kryptonite and Lynard Skynyrd’s classic Simple Man was snuck in among Shinedown’s own hits and fan favorites.
The show was amazing visually, musically and one that provided an experience that thrilled all in attendance.
