Slightly Stoopid is one of my favorite bands to catch every summertime and this year’s Return of the Red Eye Tour delivered everything I expected the group to dish out. The Ocean Beach born reggae/rock group’s sound oozes summertime fun and this year they brought the heat to Boston’s Blue Hill’s Bank Pavilion.
Opener SOJA is another favorite of mine and I couldn’t have been happier then to catch the two groups performing on the same stage. Lead singer Jacob Hemphill’s voice is unique and hypnotic and when paired with the rest of the band, it is clear why the group is a reggae rock must-see. SOJA fired up the Pavilion closing their set with the popular “I Don’t Wanna Wait” which included a signature dreadlock flip and split-jump by bassist Bobby Lee.
Slightly Stoopid took the stage next backed by a killer stage light show. The smokey screen in the air steadily being replenished by both the smoke machines and the crowd. The band opened the set with their version of “The Imperial March” which eluded to the tour’s theme pulled from the movie Star Wars. They quickly transitioned into “I’m So Stoned” and the venue was alive with Irie energy. Slightly Stoopid continued to keep the crowd happy with newer songs combined with the groups more well known “Officer” and “2am” which had everyone singing along.
Slightly Stoopid as usual delivered a solid set from beginning to end that exudes what summertime is all about, good energy, fun times and some serious heat.
