Material from the Rolling Stones, George Harrison, and U2 are entering the Grammy Hall of Fame.
The Stones’ 1969 single “Honky Tonk Women” is one of 17 tracks earning induction, while Harrison’s 1970 three-disc set “All Things Must Pass” and U2’s 1987 classic “The Joshua Tree” are also being recognized.
A total of 27 recordings are being added to the Grammy Hall of Fame. The oldest is Hoagy Carmichael’s “Georgia (On My Mind)” from 1930, while one of the most recent is Aerosmith and Run-D.M.C.’s 1986 collaborative rendition of “Walk This Way.” Creedence Clearwater Revival has two recordings on the list – the single “Fortunate Son” and the album “Cosmo’s Factory.”
A wide range of material is making the cut, including rock, pop, R&B, jazz, blues, rap, and country. Other inductees include the “Mary Poppins Original Cast Sound Track” album, Dolly Parton’s single “Jolene,” and Sugarhill Gang’s “Rapper’s Delight,” along with recordings by Neil Young, Chicago, James Brown, Miles Davis, Kris Kristofferson, and others.
Eligible recordings must be at least 25 years old and be considered, quote, “of lasting qualitative or historical significance.” With the latest additions, the Grammy Hall of Fame has grown to 960 titles.
