The Drive-By Truckers, a band celebrated for its blend of rock, storytelling, and political commentary, has announced the Southern Rock Opera Revisited 2024 Tour. This North American headline run, presented by Live Nation, is set to bring the Truckers’ pivotal 2001 album, Southern Rock Opera, back to the stage, along with a selection of fan favorites from their extensive discography. The tour kicks off on June 7 in Indianapolis, IN, and includes a notable stop in Boston at the House of Blues on October 18.

The tour announcement, released on March 21, highlights a series of performances across the United States and Canada. Following the initial leg ending in early July, the band will take a brief hiatus before resuming the tour on October 16 in Washington, DC. The grand finale is scheduled for November 24 at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN. Fans can anticipate two-night stands in cities like San Francisco, Minneapolis, Chicago, and Asheville, promising an immersive experience into the band’s celebrated work.

Tickets for the Southern Rock Opera Revisited 2024 Tour will go on sale to the public on Friday, March 29 at 10 AM local time, with VIP Experience packages available as of today. Fans have been invited to place their ticket requests by March 21 at 12 PM ET via the band’s website, with confirmed requests to be automatically charged and instructions provided by Ticketmaster.

Southern Rock Opera, originally self-released on September 11, 2001, marked a significant turning point for Drive-By Truckers. The album, a reflection on Southern identity, music, and politics, garnered critical acclaim and led to the band’s ascent from indie roots to a broader audience. Patterson Hood, a founding member of the Truckers, notes the album’s lasting relevance, particularly in the context of current social and political climates.

The 2024 tour not only revisits this landmark album but also promises a fresh take, reflecting the band’s growth and the changing times. In addition to performing Southern Rock Opera in near entirety, the setlist will include songs that resonate with the album’s themes, as well as a unique encore set for each night.

Drive-By Truckers’ decision to embark on this tour reflects a desire to engage with their past while speaking to the present. “It ain’t about the past,” Hood emphasizes, underscoring the tour’s relevance in today’s context. As the United States enters another election year, the themes of the Southern Rock Opera remain as pertinent as ever, offering a platform for reflection, dialogue, and, of course, rock ‘n’ roll.
