In what has been rumored to be the band’s last hurrah, David Coverdale and Whitesnake rolled through the sold out Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom on the “Greatest Hits” tour. The crowd was packed in tight to see the incredible musical talents of the newly inducted Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Coverdale, Reb Beach, Joel Hoekstra, Tommy Aldridge, Michael Devin, and Michele Luppi.
The tour is called the “Greatest Hits” tour and that was exactly the band played. There wasn’t anything really left out of that setlist that most Whitesnake fans would want to hear. Their whole entire set was made up of songs that were on their big three albums in the mid-to-late 80’s; Slide It In, the self-titled 1987 album, and Slip Of The Tongue.
Coverdale still knows how to control a crowd, with the crowd singing back at him at his whim at numerous points during the evening. Coverdale knows his way around a microphone stand as well; using it in a number of ways over the course of the night. Always the showman.
With Coverdale is the dynamic, and contrasting styles of Reb Beach and Joel Hoekstra. Its great to see two guitar players who are both so amazingly talented, but with such different styles, play so well together. The contrast of styles was very evident during their individual guitar solos.
Tommy Aldridge is the man behind the kit once again for Whitesnake. The man is an absolute animal back there, and that was never more evident than with his drum solo, when he ditched the sticks and finished his solo with his hands.
If you are a fan of the band’s work that made it big in America, then this show was for you. Who knows how much longer you’ll be able to see David Coverdale and Whitesnake out on the road. Only he knows how much he’s got left in him. So if you get the chance, go check out the incredibly musically talent Whitesnake while you still can.
