3 Doors Down on their “Us and the Night Tour 2016” with guests Pop Evil, and Red Sun Rising stopped by the Boston Orpheum for an intimate theatre show on September 14, 2016.
I’ve never seen any of these bands live before and was pretty pumped to check them out, especially Pop Evil. I was turned on to Pop Evil and Red Sun Rising by Octane on Sirius satellite radio (shout out to @josemangin at @sxmoctane).
First up was Red Sun Rising with their powerful set that started with “Push” and their big hit “The Otherside”, which sounded incredible. Founding members Mike Protich was great on vocals with his unique and rhythmic voice, while Ryan Williams jammed the leads perfectly. I really like this band, they were powerful, melodic, and loud, supporting their “Polyester Zeal” album. I am psyched to hear new music from them, hopefully something is coming soon.
While shooting from the soundboard, I asked the light technician if there was going to be more light on Pop Evil than there was for Red Sun Rising because I mentioned that it was dark. He told me he would try to light it up a little more.
Pop Evil took the stage with their huge hits “Ways to get High”, “LUX”, and “Deal with the Devil”. If you haven’t seen or heard much of Pop Evil, you should check them out. Their tunes are catchy and crisp, they rock !! Leigh Kakaty on vocals was nothing short of perfect, he sounded great live. The band was tight driven by a solid rhythm section with Hayley Cramer on drums. I thought she was awesome and drove solid beats through each song. Pop Evil has a lot of great hits on their 4th studio album “Up” and I have a feeling they will be cranking out good music for a long time to come. Kudos to Pop Evil !!
Before 3 Doors Down took the stage, the light technician tapped me on the shoulder and asked how were the lights for Pop Evil? He told me he “lit up” the stage for me because of the lack of spot lights. I thought that was pretty kewl.
3 Doors Down came out strong with “Still Alive” from their new album “Us and the Night” followed by “It’s Not My Time” which had the entire crowd on their feet singing. They have so many hits over the years that most of their tunes had you singing along, which was fun. If you just sat back and listened it sounded like you were listening to the radio, that’s how perfect Brad Arnold’s voice and the band sounded the entire night.
If this tour comes by your area, you should check it out for a nice evening of great music !!
