The weekend before last, I travelled down to Jacksonville, FL to cover the Welcome to Rockville festival for the increasingly inaccurately named New England Concert Reviews. This two day festival featured over 40 bands rocking out in the center of the city.
For the previous two years, a friend and I have travelled to Pryor, OK to cover the Rocklahoma festival. This year we decided to switch it up a bit because of the outstanding lineup at Rockville. There is a lot of overlap between the two festivals, but also some important differences. Rocklahoma starts on May 23rd, and several bands are playing both shows. However, Rockville, being conveniently located in the city, is a daily destination. Rocklahoma, being far away from urban areas, is an all night ordeal with attached campgrounds. Therefore the type of people that show up are slightly different, with a TPSI1 of about .05 at Rockville, and about .2 at Rocklahoma.
Over the next week or so, I’ll be publishing my photos of the bands that I took at the show. However, it turns out that for many of them, you don’t have to wait that long to see the band. I count 10 that are coming to town in the next week. I’ve included a table below so you can see who’ll be in town. Of those that are coming, you can see the Rob Zombie and Voltbeat photos already in our galleries. I wasn’t able to shoot a lot of these bands because of photo restrictions. For those I was able to get, I’ll try to put up as many as possible before the bands come to town so you can see just how badly you’ll be f-ing up if you miss the shows.
Thanks to Kristine for helping arrange my credentials, and hopefully I’ll be back next year.

1 TPSI: Tattoos per square inch. There are other ways to rate a hard rock festival, but none of them are as fun to measure.
