On August 5, Carcass brought it’s “One Foot in the Grave Tour” to an end at Toad’s Place in New Haven, Connecticut. Supporting acts for this tour was Night Demon, Ghoul and Crowbar.
First band up was Night Demon. Night Demon is a trio that hails from Ventura, California and their musical sound is something like the NWOBHM from the 1980’s. Having grown up in that era and I really enjoyed this band. I was very impressed with their “Metal” version of Golden Earring’s “Radar Love”.
Next up was Ghoul. The band took to the stage wearing sacks over their heads with one or two eye holes cut out. Their live show is similar to GWAR. They had a cast of actors that came on stage dressed in latex body suits and masks and interacted with the band and the audience. They even sprayed the audience with “blood” (red food coloring in water) several times. I’m quite sure the whole first three rows were covered. Crowbar was next, serving up their brand of NOLA sludge. The audience was mesmerized from the first note of “Conquering” to the last note of “Like Broken Glass”.
Carcass took the stage during the “1985” playback as the stage filled with smoke. They kicked right into “Unfit for Human Consumption” setting the audience into a frenzy. A pit opened up right away and several people started crowd surfing. The crowds energy level was through the roof as Carcass barreled through songs from all their releases except from their first one “Reek of Putrefaction”.
It was a awesome night for metal. All the bands sounded great. I was not expecting Ghoul to be so intense. I highly enjoyed their performance. Carcass’s set was pure metal bliss. They are always a great band to see live. I can’t wait for them to come around again.
