Just after our recent interview with the guys we managed to cover the Boston show Lovelife and Gold Fields open up the show at Paradise Rock Club with aesthetically eclectic sets. Lovelife’s started it off with beautiful lyrics and a soulful rock style. Beginning with a slower tempo than the bands to follow but still making everyone glad they came early.
Then came a burst of energy from the band Gold Fields- starting with pounding drums in a one of a kind mixture of sounds stemming from different genres and influences. The audience bounced along with the drums and enjoyed the vibe from the Australian band. They put on a great high energy set and certainly set the tone for Capital Cities to take the stage.
Taking the stage in electric yellow blazers and wayfarer sunglasses Capital Cities surges positive vibes and feel good, high energy music. Ryan and Sebu, founding members of the band are joined on stage by their tremendously talented bass player/zen master Manny, guitar player/computer expert Nick and trumpeter/lady killer Spencer. They preformed both original songs and covers while also partaking in harmonized dancing including but certainly not limited to the Capital Cities shuffle which they also taught the audience. The band has an unapologetically themselves attitude that the crowd adored. It’s good to see a band that isn’t “too cool” to be silly and has just as much fun performing as the audience has watching and listening. After performing their set the band came down off stage and danced with the crowd to their song Safe and Sound. The crowd involvement that this band has truly makes them unique and fun to see live. Bottom line is that Capital Cities puts on an excellent show that you leave feeling energized and happy. Next time they are in your city do yourself a favor and buy a ticket you won’t be disappointed.
